  • Winke Day 18: Doe Bedding Area

    Episode 1

Bill heads to a doe bedding area with the hope of catching the “Lone Oak Buck” cruising the area. This tree stand location has historically been a very good spot for morning hunts as the deer come back to bed for the day.

  • Winke Day 19: Back To The Bedding Area

    Episode 2

Bill heads back to the same ridge he sat the previous morning in hopes of catching the “Lone Oak Buck” checking out the doe bedding areas close by! November 7th is Bill’s favorite day to be in the tree stand. For the afternoon hunt, Bill’s cameraman, Drake Lamb, goes after a giant 8 pointer he h...

  • Winke Day 20: The Rut Is On

    Episode 3

Bill hunts the Skinny Plot in the morning of November 8. This plot is right on the west edge of the “Lone Oak Buck’s” range. Frosty, cold conditions have Bill optimistic that he will lay eyes on him as he checks the nearby doe bedding areas.

  • Winke Day 21: So Close

    Episode 4

Bill’s plans change soon after daylight when the wind is not what it was forecast to be for the “Skinny Plot”. He decides to move to a stand that he thinks is right in the middle of the “Lone Oak Buck’s” home range. The action picks up shortly after he heads to the new location!

  • Winke Day 22: No Hot Does

    Episode 5

Bill heads to the same ridge where he encountered the “Lone Oak Buck” the previous morning. Action is slow there without any hot does in the area. However, it picks up in the afternoon over a tiny, secluded Big N Beasty plot. Toward last light, a nice buck comes in that is all tore up from fighting.

  • Winke Day 23: Lull In The Rut

    Episode 6

Right in the core area of the “Lone Oak Buck,” Bill is setup along the top of a doe bedding ridge. Sitting near doe bedding areas during the mornings can be the ticket to seeing bucks this time of the year!

  • Winke Day 24: Finding A New Target

    Episode 7

Bill decides to change things up and try his luck on a different part of the farm. This sit takes place at a secluded clover food plot inside the timber that is surrounded by bedding areas.

  • Winke Day 25: Dreary Morning

    Episode 8

Dreary and windy conditions bring Bill back to the “Skinny Plot” in hopes of catching up with the “Lone Oak Buck.”

  • Winke Day 26: Change Of Scenery

    Episode 9

Bill heads to a new part of the farm that he has not yet hunted this season. He’s got two mature bucks on trail camera that would be definite shooters close to this location. The action picks up before he can even get into the tree stand!

  • Winke Day 27: Best Spot

    Episode 10

Bill hunts a Redneck Blind in a spot where he has had a lot of success over the years. In fact, it is the best stand/blind on the farm. The spot doesn’t disappoint as two nice bucks appear. The question: is the second one old enough to hunt?

  • Winke Day 28: Packed Plot

    Episode 11

Today’s morning hunt takes place in the “Plow Down Plot” which is full of Big N Beasty. This plot is located on the edge of what Bill thinks is the “Lone Oak Buck’s” home range. With the morning hunt ending with hardly any action, Bill heads to a new spot for the evening hunt that he has yet to ...

  • Winke Day 29: Death Ridge

    Episode 12

Bill heads to a stand known as “Death Ridge” where he has had a number of great hunts in the past. With the high winds and cold temperatures the action promises to be good. Unfortunately, we had some wireless mic issues that we had to work around.

  • Winke Day 30: Final Rut Hunt

    Episode 13

Happy Thanksgiving! This is Bill’s last rut hunt of the 2017 season. Going, once again, after the Lone Oak Buck.

  • Winke Day 31: Back To Food

    Episode 14

We join Bill at the “Plow Down Plot” this afternoon as he hopes the deer will come into this secluded plot of Big N Beasty to feed for the night. At this point in the later days of November, the deer really concentrate on food sources and this hunt is a prime example!

  • Winke Day 32: Big N Beasty Plot

    Episode 15

Bill heads back to a Big N Beasty food plot in hopes that the deer haven’t totally demolished it. This historically has been one of the best late season spots on the farm, when it holds food!

  • Winke Day 33: Ridge Top Hunt

    Episode 16

Bill hunts a new part of the farm he has not yet hunted this season. The deer have absolutely demolished the food plot. It doesn’t take long for the deer to start showing up all over the ridge top!

  • Winke Day 34: Slow Night

    Episode 17

Bill heads to a stand, one of his favorite spots, that he has not yet hunted this season. With high expectations the evening was something of a yawner but for an interesting session involving a bobcat and a 1 1/2 year old buck. Who knew that deer and bobcats could play together?

  • Winke Day 35: Last Chance Buck

    Episode 18

It is the last day of the regular bow season, before the start of the firearms season, and Bill is once again sitting on the fringe of the best food source on the farm. The action is steady all afternoon, capped off by the appearance of a solid mature buck.

  • Winke Day 36: Targeting Tight Rack

    Episode 19

Bill heads back out to the “Plow Down Plot” for the first sit since the shotgun season. This is the same spot where he killed the mature 8 point on December 1st. The “Tight Rack Two” buck has been showing up in multiple spots around the farm recently and this plot would be a great spot to catch him.

  • Winke Day 37: North Edge

    Episode 20

Bill heads to a new spot that he hasn’t hunted yet this year that is not too far from the house. Bill picked up “Tight Rack Two” on trail camera a few weeks ago in the same area. The night turns out pretty well as Bill sees multiple bucks.

  • Winke Day 38: Chocolate Rack

    Episode 21

This will be Bill’s last hunt before the holidays. He heads to a Redneck Blind where he has got pictures of a mature deer a few weeks prior in hopes that he makes his way past. The night starts off pretty slow but picks up towards sunset. He has an encounter with a nice four year old buck he call...

  • Winke Day 39: Frigid Conditions

    Episode 22

Bill heads down below the house for the first sit after the holiday break. He hopes to cross paths with the Tight Rack Buck on this frigid afternoon.

  • Winke Day 40: Snow Falling

    Episode 23

The “Plow Down Plot” is where today’s hunt takes place. With a weather front pushing through with a little snow falling, this should be the perfect combination for seeing deer in this plot. However, Bill ends up seeing more deer on the walk in, than he does from the blind!

  • Winke's Blog: Direct Nut Seeding, Deer Browsing

    Episode 24

As Bill searches a new area for antlers, he discusses direct nut seeding, one way to add oak trees to marginal acres. Then, he shows the effects of browsing pressure from the deer and discusses one way to cope with it. He finds an antler and then discusses bedding areas and side hill trails.
