The Midwest Whitetail team is back for the 2025 season and we couldn’t be more excited to bring you the various projects and storylines that the team has in store for this year. We kick things off with Mike Reed who has been hard at it since the 2024 hunting season ended, ensuring excellent overall herd health using the Ax Outdoors Complete Deer Feed and monitoring bucks on his different farms as they drop their antlers. Recalling a recent trip to the woods with an Iowa state forester, Mike was able to match up a near-perfect set of shed antlers from a giant buck that he has watched closely over the last few years. Crazy enough, this ended up being Mike's biggest shed ever! Past encounters and the buck’s historic whereabouts have Mike’s gears turning on how to best strategize and hunt the buck this fall, and we are excited to see where the off season takes him! After that, we jump over to Owen Reigler who similarly has been in the field nonstop, largely working to complete a TSI project through a government EQIP program. Through the lens of his specific plan drawn up with a forester, Owen dives into the basics of common TSI practices including understory management, mid story management, and crop tree release. He discusses various cutting techniques as well as the short term and long term benefits that TSI can have for deer on your farm. As always we can’t say thank you enough for your support as we kick off yet another season of Midwest Whitetail.
